Travis Geopfert, University of Arkansas assistant coach and two-time USTFCCCA National Coach of the Year, shows you a drill that will improve all phases of the triple jump. By placing boxes on the runway, you’ll force athletes to lengthen their strides and increase their effort.

Advanced Approach Drill

Drill Summary: Place two sets of boxes on the runway where athletes would complete the first two jumps of their triple jump. The goal is for athletes to jump off the first box on their right leg, jump onto the second box on their right leg, land off the second box on their left leg and explode into the finish. As athletes get better at the drill, you can increase the speed and distance between boxes. Coach Geopfert says this drill is for advanced athletes only and it’s important to provide them with enough of a platform to land on.
